Alex Ahn ’15 is interested in the science and social consequences of climate change. He has previously researched advanced climate model projections at NOAA and is currently pursuing a major in biology.
Laura Rigell ’15 commits much of her time to climate justice work. She campaigns for divestment with Swarthmore Mountain Justice. This involvement has led her to help shape the national network connecting students for divestment. Laura advocates for alternatives that empower the grass roots, a belief that has inspired her interest in property rights. She has designed a special major in Sustainable Land Use.
Carol Nackenoff, chair of the Department of Political Science, teaches a course on Environmental Politics & Policy, has offered the Capstone Environmental Studies seminar (Environmental Justice: Freshwater Issues), and has chaired the Environmental Studies Program. She will be offering (with Lala Zuo) a course on Water Issues and Policies: U.S. and China in spring ’14 and taking a group of students in the class to China at the end of the semester. She received her Ph.D. in Political Science from the University of Chicago and has taught at Swarthmore since 1992.
